Eminem blasted in Congress
The lyrics of controversial rapper Eminem were part of the
focus of the testimony of Lynne Cheney Wednesday at a Senate
Commerce Committee hearing in Washington. The wife of Republican
vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney offered harsh criticism
towards Eminem and his label for the song "Kill You" in
which the rapper describes the mock murder of his wife.
"They could not be more hateful in their attitudes toward
women," said Cheney. Cheney also took aim at record label
executives for allowing violent content to be marketed to
children. "It debases and degrades the culture our children
are growing up in and the leaders of the entertainment industry
have to face up to that and understand their
responsibilities," said Cheney. The hearing followed the
Monday release of a Federal Trade Commission report that asserted
the entertainment industry was marketing violent, adult-oriented
films, music and video games to underage audiences.
